Osun 2026: Adeleke’s Aides and Accord Party Chiefs Join APC
On Tuesday, two senior aides of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and several prominent members of the Accord Party announced their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The move comes just weeks before the August 15 governorship election in the state.
The defectors were welcomed at the Ileri-Oluwa House in Osogbo, where they affirmed their backing for APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji.
Among those who crossed the floor were Moyoade Lukman, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Market Affairs, and Azeez Kazeem, Senior Special Assistant in the Governor’s Office. Also defecting were Accord Party House of Representatives aspirant for Ife Federal Constituency Dr Leye Olagbaju, Accord youth leader in Ife‑Central Local Government Asamo Gbenga, and Ojuolape Olagbaju.
The defectors cited dwindling confidence in the ruling party’s prospects and confidence in Oyebamiji’s ability to steer development in Osun State as their reasons for the switch.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Dr Leye Olagbaju said they would mobilise their existing political structures to support Oyebamiji’s bid.
“We will deploy the political platforms we have built over the years to back Mr Bola Oyebamiji, AMBO, and, by God’s grace, deliver him as governor on August 15. He is a capable and prepared leader,” he added.
Moyoade Lukman noted that his return to the progressive fold came after reflecting on his political journey and learning valuable lessons.
Receiving the newcomers, Wole Oke, Director‑General of the APC Campaign Council, assured them of equal opportunities within the party and reiterated the APC’s focus on winning the governorship election.
Oke hinted that more aides of Governor Adeleke, including commissioners, are preparing to resign and join the APC, promising to present them to the public at the appropriate time.
