Rufai Oseni Claims EFCC Has Already Met Its Objective in Osun Account Freeze
Arise Television’s The Morning Show anchor, Rufai Oseni, has dismissed President Bola Tinubu’s directive asking the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to unfreeze the Osun State Government’s account.
Oseni argued that the goal of tarnishing the state’s image had already been accomplished through the freezing controversy.
He insisted that the public narrative linking the Osun government to corruption allegations was already firmly established, so even if the Federal Government reverses the action, the reputational damage remains.
“No matter how you look at it, it confirms a lot this morning, and it goes back to talk about our institutions,” Oseni said.
He added that the development had already “blackmailed” the Osun State Government, drawing a parallel to former FBI Director James Comey’s handling of the Hillary Clinton investigation ahead of the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
“I was telling Wilson Uwujaren yesterday that EFCC have already achieved the aim. Even if the president reverses this, they’ve already achieved the aim,” he stated.
“They’ve already blackmailed the state government. This is exactly what happened between James Comey and Hillary Clinton, leading up to the 2016 elections,” he added.
Oseni further argued that reversing the freeze would not erase the perception created by the allegations.
“So this reversal is a little too late because you had already blackmailed the candidates,” Oseni said.
He pointed out that internet search results still associate Osun State with “frozen account” and “corruption allegations,” showing the narrative has taken hold in the public space.
