Christantus Uche Ruled Out for Entire 2026/27 La Liga Season
Getafe have confirmed that Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche will miss the whole 2026/27 La Liga season after sustaining a serious right‑knee injury. The diagnosis follows an MRI scan carried out after the club’s pre‑season friendly against Monaco.
The injury occurred in the closing moments of the match at Stade Louis II when Monaco defender Christian Mawissa made a forceful challenge that twisted Uche’s leg. Mawissa received a straight red card, while Uche was treated on the pitch and taken off on a stretcher.
Initially, Getafe described the problem as a mere “bruise,” sparking hopes of a quick recovery. Further examinations, however, revealed multiple tears to the ligaments and menisci in the right knee, necessitating surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation programme.
The 23‑year‑old’s absence is a significant setback for Getafe. Having returned from a loan spell at Crystal Palace, Uche was expected to play a key role in head coach Jose Bordalas’ plans. The club is also preparing for a new European campaign in the UEFA Europa Conference League, making his loss an added concern for the coaching staff.
For Nigeria, the blow is equally painful. Uche is now likely to miss the Super Eagles’ upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches, depriving the team of a promising midfield option at a crucial stage.
