Tiwa Savage Speaks Out on Private Video Leak
Nigerian Afrobeat star Tiwa Savage has revealed that the leak of her private video in 2021 was not a mistake or a blackmail attempt, but the result of a bet placed by her former boyfriend and his friends.
Speaking on the American radio show The Breakfast Club, Savage said she initially believed the video had been shared accidentally while her ex was trying to save it. Later, she learned the footage had been circulated as part of a wager between him and his circle of friends.
“Even that itself was traumatic because he was my boyfriend, we were in a relationship, and I’m hearing later that it was a bet. So, did you really like me or was this just planned from the beginning?” she said, expressing the deep sense of betrayal she felt.
The singer also dismissed claims that the leak was a publicity stunt designed to boost her relevance or promote new music. She argued that if she had wanted attention, she would have ensured better production quality.
Savage warned fans about privacy, noting that even trusted spaces can be compromised: “I’m not going to anyone’s hotel cause you can have hidden cameras; yeah, you’re coming to my safe space.”
The revelation sheds new light on the 2021 incident, shifting the narrative from alleged extortion to a personal breach of trust rooted in a reckless bet.
