PDP Governorship Candidates Confirmed Across 10 States Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has finalised its governorship candidates in ten states ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Plateau State

Kefas Ropshik emerged as the PDP governorship candidate after securing 19,938 votes, defeating three other aspirants. The founder of Kefiano Group and Kefiano Autos described his victory as a mandate for a united and prosperous Plateau, pledging to serve only one term if elected.

Oyo State

Former deputy governor Hazeem Gbolarumi won the PDP ticket with 3,615 votes, far ahead of Beulah Adeoye’s 22 votes. Tolulope Awoniyi, chairman of the PDP Governorship Primary Election Committee, declared him the duly elected candidate. Gbolarumi thanked delegates and party leaders across the 33 local government areas for their support.

Kaduna State

Shehu Bawa, a former House of Representatives member, clinched the PDP governorship ticket after polling 124,170 votes, defeating Haruna Saeed who received 22,010 votes. Bawa promised to address insecurity and poverty in the state.

Katsina State

Former senator Garba Lado Danmarke emerged as the PDP consensus governorship candidate. Muhammad Kankara, chairman of the Election Committee, announced that 77,013 valid votes were cast in his favour during the affirmation exercise.

Kano State

Muhammad Bello Dalhatu defeated Mohammed Abacha, the eldest son of the late former Head of State Sani Abacha, to win the PDP ticket. Dalhatu polled 2,233 votes while Abacha garnered 749 votes. Umar Hadejia, chairman of the Election Committee, declared Dalhatu the winner and noted the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

Nasarawa State

David Ombugadu, a former House of Representatives member, emerged as the PDP governorship candidate during a stakeholders’ meeting in Lafia supervised by INEC officials. Party leaders said his endorsement reflects confidence from all three senatorial zones. Ombugadu named Yahaya Ohinoye as his running mate and pledged to reclaim power for the PDP in 2027.

Taraba State

Former senator Emmanuel Bwacha, representing Taraba South, emerged as the party’s sole governorship candidate through consensus affirmation in Jalingo. He pledged to focus on infrastructure, economic development and inclusive governance if elected.

Rivers State

Sam Ejekwu, an ally of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, emerged as the PDP consensus governorship candidate after affirmation votes by delegates across local government areas. Party stakeholders highlighted his grassroots political structure and public service experience.

Abia State

Kelechi Anosike secured the PDP governorship ticket in Abia State.

Cross River State

Arthur Jarvis won the PDP governorship ticket in Cross River State.
