Labour Party Nasarawa Offers Free Nomination Forms for 2027 Aspirants
The chairman of the Labour Party in Nasarawa State, Alexander Umbugu, announced that expression of interest and nomination forms are now free for all aspirants who wish to run under the party’s platform.
Speaking to journalists on Friday, Umbugu explained that the initiative removes the financial burden that often discourages capable individuals from seeking public office.
He emphasized that the party belongs to every Nigerian, regardless of economic status, a principle reflected in its logo depicting a family (Papa, Mama, and pikin).
According to Umbugu, “If you look at our logo, it is Papa, Mama and pikin. The people you are seeing, not all their fingers are equal. We want to treat them as if they don’t have money like other people; they should come to our party, and we are going to do the needful for them to come and contest.”
He noted that many candidates won elections in 2023 without paying any fees, and the same approach will be applied for the upcoming 2027 polls.
Umbugu contrasted this with other parties that charge as much as ₦1 million for House of Representatives or Senate forms, and up to ₦25 million for governorship tickets, arguing that such costs encourage candidates to seek returns on their investment rather than serve the public.
The state chairman, loyal to the Abure-led national leadership, expressed confidence that the Supreme Court will ultimately recognize Barr. Julius Abure as the rightful party chairman, despite a recent court ruling favoring the Nanadi faction.
He added that his executive was constituted after a congress held on December 2, 4, and 6, 2025, and that the party will soon hold primaries to select candidates for all positions, beginning with the Nasarawa North Senatorial District bye‑election to fill the vacancy left by the late Sen. Godiya Akwashiki.
