Kwankwasiyya Movement Denies Kwankwaso‑Tinubu Defection Rumours
The spokesman for the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Habibu Mohammed, has dismissed recent talks suggesting a possible defection between Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) chieftain Rabiu Kwankwaso and President Bola Tinubu.
Mohammed explained that, in the early days of Tinubu’s presidency, the president invited Kwankwaso to a private meeting to discuss a potential collaboration. Kwankwaso later disclosed the invitation but chose to decline the offer.
He emphasized that Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, does not require external persuasion to work with the President and has his own political agenda.
Furthermore, Mohammed noted that before Kwankwaso’s shift to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), he had already established a working relationship with former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
“In the early days of Tinubu’s administration, he invited Kwankwaso for a private meeting to discuss working with him, which Kwankwaso later disclosed. However, Kwankwaso declined to work with Tinubu’s administration. Before Kwankwaso’s defection to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, he had already established a working relationship with former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi,” Mohammed said.
