Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, Keyamo downplayed the challenge posed by Labour Party’s Peter Obi and the African Democratic Congress’s Atiku Abubakar, describing their potential impact as inconsequential.

He noted that the APC’s success in the 2026 off‑season governorship elections predicts a repeat performance in 2027, framing the upcoming poll as a “coronation, not an election.”

In a separate development, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar urged President Tinubu to concentrate on fixing his administration’s shortcomings rather than resorting to political rhetoric ahead of 2027.
Atiku labelled Tinubu’s recent comment about “wrestling his opponents to the finish” as “the lamentation of a drowning man,” accusing the president of diverting attention from what he described as an abysmal record in office.
The former vice president made the remarks in response to an appeal by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria for credible, transparent and peaceful elections.
