Keyamo Declares 2027 Election a Coronation for Tinubu, Not a Contest
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, said President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will secure a second term in the 2027 presidential election with an overwhelming mandate.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, Keyamo expressed confidence that Nigerians will vote massively for Tinubu and the APC.
He downplayed the challenge posed by Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress and Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress, describing their threat as insignificant.
Keyamo noted that the APC’s success in the 2026 off‑season governorship polls indicates a repeat performance in 2027.
“I’m looking around between you and me, where would Peter Obi’s votes come from? I can’t see. I want to make a profound statement, not out of arrogance, not out of overconfidence, but out of pure demographic calculation. The 2027 elections is a coronation, not an election.”
In related news, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar urged President Tinubu to focus on fixing his administration’s shortcomings rather than engaging in political rhetoric ahead of the 2027 polls.
Atiku, through his aide Phrank Shaibu, called Tinubu’s remark about “wrestling his opponents to the finish” the lamentation of a drowning man and accused the president of diverting attention from what he described as an abysmal record in office.
He added that it was troubling for the president to make such a statement in response to an appeal from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria for credible, transparent and peaceful elections.
