Kenneth Okonkwo Accuses APC of Using Abia Governor Otti to Stifle Opposition Campaigns
Kenneth Okonkwo, a senior member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) for allegedly imposing exorbitant fees on presidential and governorship campaign billboards in Abia State.
Speaking on Channels Television’s “Sunrise Daily,” Okonkwo said the ruling party is using Abia Governor Alex Otti to make it virtually impossible for opposition parties to afford campaign advertising.
He noted that a presidential candidate’s billboard now costs ₦200 million, and a governorship billboard ₦150 million, adding that multiplying these amounts across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory reveals a deliberate effort to suffocate dissent.
Okonkwo described the APC as a “scourge” intent on undermining democracy, expressing surprise that Governor Otti would participate in what he views as an APC‑driven agenda to silence political rivals.
