Davido Shares Why He Won’t Push His Kids Into Music
Nigerian music star Davido said he hopes none of his children will choose a career in music. He spoke about this during an appearance on The Vibe podcast, noting that even though his second daughter, Hailey Veronica Adeleke, shows a strong interest and talent for singing, he remains hesitant to encourage her.
He explained that his own experiences in the industry have been tough, and knowing what he has endured makes him doubtful about guiding his children toward the same path. “I don’t want any of my children to pursue music,” he said. “My second daughter is already leaning toward music. She is lively, behaves like me, and has a good voice. But I know what I went through. Can you go through what I go through? Knowing what I have been through, I’m sceptical about encouraging any of my children to do music.”
Despite his reservations, Davido emphasized that he would not stand in the way of his children’s dreams, especially since his own family supported his ambitions. He added that if they prove to be talented, there is no reason to stop them.
The artist also claimed he is the only billionaire’s child worldwide who has built a successful name and fortune in music. Reflecting on the early obstacles he faced, Davido said his affluent background worked against him because African audiences often favor “grass‑to‑grace” narratives. He asserted that he has carved out his own legacy, making him the sole billionaire heir—both in Africa and globally—who has achieved fame and wealth through music.
“Not to brag, but which other billionaire’s child, in Africa or anywhere else, has made a name for himself and earned substantial money?” he asked. “You can’t name one apart from me.”
