Davido Says He Won’t Encourage His Kids to Pursue Music Careers
Nigerian superstar David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, shared his thoughts on his children’s future during a recent episode of The Vibe podcast. He made it clear that he hopes none of his six offspring will choose a career in music.
The artist highlighted his second daughter, Hailey Veronica Adeleke, who already shows a strong interest in singing and possesses a good voice. Despite her talent, Davido remains hesitant about steering her toward the industry.
“I don’t want any of my children to pursue music. My second daughter [Hailey] is already leaning towards music. She is the life of the party. She behaves just like me. She actually has a good voice,” he said.
He added that his own experiences in the music world have left him wary. “But I know what I went through. Can you go through what I go through? Knowing what I have been through, I’m sceptical about encouraging any of my children to do music,” Davido explained.
Nevertheless, the award‑winning singer emphasized that he would never stand in the way of his children’s dreams, noting that his own parents supported his ambitions. “But because my parents and my family eventually allowed me chase my dreams, I would never want to block any of my children from chasing their dreams. And if they are good, why not?”
During the same interview, Davido claimed a unique distinction: he believes he is the only billionaire’s child worldwide who has built a successful name and fortune for himself in music.
Reflecting on the early challenges of his career, he pointed out that his wealthy background made it harder to gain acceptance, as African audiences often favor “grass to grace” narratives. Despite those obstacles, he built his own legacy.
“Not to brag, but which other billionaire’s child do you know, not just in Africa but in the world, that has made a name for himself and also made a lot of money? You can’t name one apart from me,” Davido asserted.
