Amaechi Challenges Tinubu’s ‘All Is Fair in Politics’ Remark
The vice‑presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has taken issue with President Bola Tinubu’s recent remark made during a meeting with the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria. Speaking on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” programme, Tinubu suggested that “all is fair in politics.” Amaechi questioned whether such a stance would deem it acceptable for a political thug to shoot him while he is casting his vote.
Amaechi said, “Look at the president’s statement that all is fair in politics; if a thug takes a gun and shoots me where I’m voting, is that fair?” He added that, as a reader of literature, he interprets Tinubu’s words just as an author interprets his own work, and he expects the president to clarify his position.
The ADC leader urged Tinubu to reassure Nigerians that the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the ADC will compete on an even field in the 2027 election. He stressed that the country needs a guarantee of a free and fair contest, allowing the best team to prevail without intimidation or violence.
Amaechi’s comments highlight growing concerns over election integrity and the need for political leaders to condemn any form of violence that could undermine the democratic process.
