ADC Names Gabriel Pidomson as Rivers State Governorship Candidate
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has selected former Rivers State Secretary to the Government Gabriel Pidomson as its candidate for the upcoming governorship election.
Pidomson won the party’s primary after receiving 112,068 votes, defeating four other contenders across the state’s 23 local government areas.
A former SSG under Sir Celestine Omehia, Pidomson hails from the Ogoni community in Gokana Local Government Area.
He was widely regarded as the preferred choice of former Governor Rotimi Amaechi ahead of the primary contest.
Carol Obaro, chairperson of the ADC Primary Election Committee in Rivers State, announced the result at the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt on Saturday night.
According to the official tally, Pidomson garnered 112,068 votes, while Sekonte Davies placed second with 16,872 votes and former PDP aspirant Farah Dagogo came third with 2,369 votes.
Other aspirants included Leloonu Nwibubasa (1,476 votes), Henry Ogbonna (546 votes) and Allen Ezekiel Hart (268 votes).
Obaro declared, “Having satisfied the ADC’s requirements and constitution, Gabriel Pidomson scored the highest votes and is hereby declared the winner of the primary and the party’s governorship candidate in Rivers State.”
Pidomson is no stranger to Rivers politics, having served as a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly for Gokana constituency from 2003 to 2007, before his tenure as Secretary to the State Government from June to October 2007 under Omehia’s administration.
