Zlatan Ibrahimovic Slams Ronald Koeman Over Netherlands’ World Cup Exit
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has criticised Ronald Koeman following the Netherlands’ shocking exit from the FIFA World Cup, accusing the Dutch manager of abandoning the side’s traditional playing style in the defeat to Morocco.
Penalties proved costly for the Oranje, with Justin Kluivert, Quinten Timber and Crysencio Summerville all failing to convert from the spot. Morocco recovered after Neil El Aynaoui’s early miss, while Achraf Hakimi struck the post before Ismael Saibari netted the decisive penalty to send the North Africans into the last‑16.
Having played under Koeman during his early years at Ajax, Ibrahimovic did not hold back in his assessment of the Dutch performance.
Speaking on FOX Sports’ post‑match analysis via talkSPORT, he said: “I think this loss is on Koeman because I didn’t recognise this Dutch team. He lost with an identity that is not the Dutch identity and that makes me angry. Lose with your identity. That’s who you are.”
The match statistics highlighted Morocco’s dominance for extended periods. The Netherlands finished with less than 30 percent possession and registered only two shots on target across the full 120 minutes, bringing an abrupt end to their World Cup campaign.
