Victor Umeh Accuses Peace Movement Party of Being Used to Block NDC’s 2027 Bid
The lawmaker representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Victor Umeh, has alleged that the Peace Movement Party (PMP) is being deployed to obstruct the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) from taking part in the 2027 general elections. He described the controversy surrounding the NDC’s logo as politically motivated.
Umeh Details Timeline of Legal Challenge Against NDC
Umeh pointed out that shortly after high‑profile politicians such as former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso joined the NDC on May 3, an application was filed the very next day seeking to nullify the party’s registration, despite the NDC having been registered for about five months.
Victory‑Sign Logo Not Exclusive to PMP, Says Lawmaker
The senator insisted that the victory‑sign symbol cannot belong to the PMP because the party is not registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He explained that a political symbol becomes exclusive only after a party’s official registration with INEC, after which no other party may legally use it.
Opposition Reacts as NDC Vows to Defend Registration
The ruling has continued to generate reactions among opposition figures and supporters of the NDC ahead of the 2027 general elections. The NDC has maintained that it remains committed to pursuing legal options to defend its registration and participation in the electoral process.
