Wike Backed Amaechi in 2007, Beat Him in 2023 – Olayinka Reacts
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory’s senior special assistant on public communications, Lere Olayinka, has accused the African Democratic Congress vice‑presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, of turning the Catholic Church into a political prop ahead of the 2027 elections.
Olayinka said Amaechi’s recent criticism of President Bola Tinubu for allegedly insulting the Catholic Church is merely a vote‑seeking stunt. He noted that politicians like Amaechi treat every issue as a chance to garner support.
In a post on his 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) handle, Olayinka wrote:
“Politics has now turned Rotimi Amaechi into an emergency defender of the Catholic Church. These clowns see everything as an opportunity for votes. Waiting for Pitobi too. Wike helped him in 2007 and 2011. Wike defeated him in 2015, 2019, and 2023. Who’s he?”
The exchange began after President Tinubu met with the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, led by Archbishop John Onaiyekan, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The bishops expressed concerns about the nation’s state, but Onaiyekan said Tinubu rejected their assessment.
Onaiyekan’s remarks sparked condemnation from the presidency, intensifying the verbal clash between the Tinubu administration and its critics.
