Nollywood actor Uzee Usman has warned that the growth of Kannywood, Nigeria’s Hausa‑language film sector, is being stalled because wealthy northerners and politicians are unwilling to sponsor or invest in the industry.
He explained that, despite the industry’s longevity and the availability of compelling stories, the primary obstacle remains a lack of sponsorship and investment. According to Usman, many northern millionaires and politicians simply do not believe in or fund the entertainment business the way their counterparts in the South (Nollywood) do.
Working with Funke Akindele on ‘A Tribe Called Judah’
In a separate interview, Usman spoke about his role as Adamu in the movie A Tribe Called Judah, describing it as one of the most challenging characters he has ever played. He credited director Funke Akindele for making the role easier through collaboration, a fun atmosphere, and clear guidance that helped the cast interpret their parts effectively.
Relationship with Funke Akindele
Usman revealed that he knew Akindele before the production of A Tribe Called Judah but they were not close at that time. He praised her respectful demeanor and people‑centric approach, noting that after the film they became very close friends. He now holds her in high regard for the way she treats everyone around her.
