Udenta Doubts Atiku’s Southern Support Ahead of 2027 Poll
Former National Secretary of the defunct Alliance for Democracy, Professor Udenta Udenta, has voiced his concerns about the prospects of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the forthcoming 2027 presidential election. Speaking on Arise News, Udenta highlighted the constitutional mandate that a presidential candidate must obtain at least 25 percent of the votes in no fewer than 24 states.
According to Udenta, \ this \ high \ threshold \ will \ be \ particularly \ challenging \ for \ Atiku \ in \ the \ Southern \ region. \ He \ does \ not \ believe \ the \ former \ VP \ will \ be \ able \ to \ secure \ even \ 10 \ percent \ of \ the \ vote \ in \ any \ Southern \ state, \ which \ would \ make \ meeting \ the \ required \ spread \ extremely \ difficult.
“Atiku may not get up to 10 percent of the vote in any Southern state, winning 25 percent of the votes in at least 24 states will not be easy. The South will be a major battleground in 2027, no candidate can depend on one region. Political parties must strengthen their grassroots structures, improve campaign organisation, expand their reach, and mobilise voters to build nationwide support.”
Udenta emphasized that the South will once again play a decisive role in shaping the outcome of the 2027 election. He urged political parties to move beyond reliance on a single stronghold and instead build broad, nationwide support through better grassroots mobilisation and campaign organisation.
