Toni Kroos Calls for Tactical Improvement Ahead of Paraguay Clash
Former Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has issued a stark warning to the German national team, insisting they must quickly address their tactical and creative shortcomings or risk an early exit from the FIFA World Cup when they face Paraguay in the round of 32.
Key Players Musiala and Wirtz Must Find Form
Kroos highlighted that young talents Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz have yet to reach their best levels, stressing that Germany’s hopes of advancing hinge on both playmakers rediscovering their spark. Despite his concerns, he remains confident the squad possesses the quality to defeat any top‑side if everything clicks into place.
Defensive Grit and Complacency Concerns
“It has to be nasty to play against us, meaning we need to be capable of defending well and being gritty. We aren’t doing that yet. And we need Musiala and Wirtz in top form, which we don’t have right now,” Kroos said during a TikTok Live session.
He added that if these issues persist, Germany will not last long in the tournament. While the team has previously managed to win despite poor performances — such as the match against Algeria — Kroos doubts the current side has that resilience.
Kroos also disagreed with the coach’s claim that complacency played no role, noting that human nature makes it difficult to ignore the mental advantage of already having qualified. He further remarked that Germany simply lacks the physicality needed to compete at the highest level.
Path to the Last 16
Germany are still expected to start Musiala and Wirtz against Paraguay, despite both players struggling to influence the recent defeat to Ecuador. A victory would send Julian Nagelsmann’s side into the last 16, where a potential blockbuster clash with France could await.
