Tobi Amusan Opens Up About Injury That Affected Her Commonwealth Games 2026 Performance
Nigeria’s world record holder Tobi Amusan has disclosed that a heavy fall during training left her nursing a knee injury before the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The setback forced her to settle for bronze in the women’s 100m hurdles final.
Race Results and Medal Details
Amusan crossed the line in 12.60 seconds to claim the bronze medal. Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton won gold in 12.33 seconds, while Jamaica’s Megan Simmons took silver with a time of 12.41 seconds.
Amusan’s Comments on the Fall and Cold Conditions
Speaking after the race, Amusan said she suffered a nasty fall at camp, which made her worried about her fitness heading into the meet. She added that the chilly Glasgow weather posed an extra challenge, especially as she manages anemia and tries to stay warm.
“I had a pretty bad fall at training camp, so I’ve been a bit concerned about my knee coming into this meet. But I’m just thankful I was able to hold it together and get on the podium once again,” she said.
She also noted that, despite the difficulties, she chose to focus on preparation rather than making excuses, and now plans to seek treatment to determine her next steps.
Nigeria’s Medal Standing at the Games
The bronze added to Nigeria’s growing tally at the event. Team Nigeria currently sits fifth on the medals table with eight gold, five silver and three bronze medals, for a total of 16 medals. Australia leads with 112 medals, followed by England (66), Canada (46), host Scotland (26), and then South Africa, Malaysia and New Zealand rounding out the top eight.
