Tobi Amusan Confirms Injury Cost Her Commonwealth Games 2026 100m Hurdles Title
Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has revealed that an injury sustained before the 2026 Commonwealth Games prevented her from defending her women’s 100m hurdles title in Glasgow.
The world record holder finished with bronze, clocking 12.60 seconds in Thursday night’s final. Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton took gold in 12.33 seconds, while Jamaica’s Megan Simmons claimed silver with 12.41 seconds.
Speaking after the race, Amusan said she suffered a heavy fall during training camp, which left her worried about her knee heading into the competition.
I had a pretty bad fall at training camp, so I’ve been a bit concerned about my knee coming into this meet. But I’m just thankful I was able to hold it together and get on the podium once again.

She also noted that the cold weather in Glasgow posed an extra challenge, especially given her anemia.
It was a little cold out there. I’m anemic, so I try to stay warm whenever I can. I did my best to keep myself warm before the race.

Amusan added that she will now focus on treatment and assess her future steps.
Honestly, with what I’m dealing with right now, I just want to go and get treatment, and then we’ll see what happens next.

Her bronze medal boosted Nigeria’s medal tally at the Games. As of the latest standings, Team Nigeria sits fifth on the medals table with eight gold, five silver and three bronze medals, totalling 16 medals.
Australia leads with 51 gold, 24 silver and 37 bronze (112 total). England follows with 66 medals, Canada third with 46, host Scotland fourth with 26. South Africa, Malaysia and New Zealand round out the top eight.
