Tinubu Should Not Allow 2027 Election to Hold, Says ADC Chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo
African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo has urged President Bola Tinubu to step down before the 2027 general election, insisting that the president should resign peacefully and return to his Bourdillon residence in Lagos State.
Okonkwo argued that Tinubu should not wait to contest the 2027 poll, pointing to the persistent insecurity that continues to plague many parts of the country.
He also reacted to the recent Abuja Federal High Court judgment that overturned the deregistration of the ADC, stating:
“Everything about this judgment is geared towards frustrating the opposition and trying to coronate Tinubu according to the Minister of Aviation, not elect him in 2027. Tinubu, by his performance, has already gone back to Bourdillon with a one‑way ticket by 2027.”
On the question of insecurity, Okonkwo said:
“Is it in the area of insecurity? I told you when you want to give an example of insecurity, you don’t need to refer to yesterday because it’s a daily occurrence. In Plateau, in Benue people are massacred in their numbers, people are beheaded in Oyo State and they want you to praise them for what they would have prevented.”
He added that preventing loss of life is always better than dealing with its aftermath, sharing a personal ordeal:
“My worker’s mother was kidnapped in Kaduna State. The abductors demanded hundreds of millions in ransom. When the family could not meet the demand, they broke two of the mother’s fingers. He is her only child, and seeing this pains me deeply.”
He concluded that such incidents often go unreported, reinforcing his view that Tinubu should not even allow the 2027 election to proceed and should instead resign in peace.
