His death comes shortly after the passing of his grandmother, Marianna Adams, while he was on World Cup duty. Adams earned nine senior international caps and began his career at Stellenbosch before joining Mamelodi Sundowns in 2025. With the Pretoria‑based club he won the Betway Premiership and the CAF Champions League, made 139 appearances (the second‑most in the club’s history) and played a pivotal role in securing the 2023 Carling Knockout trophy.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Adams’ mentor Brendine Johnson urged the public to respect their privacy during this painful time. “At this moment things are still raw. The family would not want to be contacted right now; they would not be able to answer anyone,” Johnson said, adding that the loss has devastated everyone who knew him.

Last month, SAFA expressed its condolences following the death of Adams’ grandmother during the tournament. SAFA president Danny Jordaan stated, “This is a massive loss for Jayden’s family, friends and relatives… may her soul rest in peace.” Adams had been granted extended leave after the World Cup and was expected to rejoin Sundowns next week.
