SDP Presidential Candidate Adewole Adebayo Calls for INEC Impartiality Ahead of 2027 Elections
Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to act as an impartial arbiter rather than an opponent in the forthcoming 2027 general election.
Speaking on the shortcomings of the 2023 election, Adebayo described the outcome as marred by widespread fraud and the validation of false figures by the electoral body.
He remarked, “In 2023 I contested against INEC. INEC was the opponent. It is akin to allowing a bank robber to count the money he stole from the bank and then declaring that his profit. The numbers announced then were simply not credible.”
Adebayo expressed hope that the current INEC leadership, headed by Chairman Joash Amupitan and the electoral commissioners, will adopt a different stance.
“I pray that this time around no candidate will have to view INEC as an enemy. If the contest is candidate versus candidate, we are ready. No aspirant should be unfortunate enough to run against the electoral commission, as we did in 2023. That is the change we need.”
He likened a fair election to writing an examination where the score truly reflects the candidate’s effort, stressing that credibility must be restored to the electoral process.
