Rudeboy Opens Up About His Journey from Church Choir to Strip Club
Nigerian music star Paul Okoye, widely known as Rudeboy, has shared the surprising twists of his early life during a recent interview on Yanga FM. The former P‑Square member described how his teenage years took a dark turn despite being raised in a deeply religious household.
Raised by a mother who served as a pastor, Okoye was actively involved in church life from childhood. He sang lead in the choir, preached, and even taught music to fellow congregants.
At the age of 16, however, his path shifted dramatically. He moved from leading church worship to performing in strip clubs and other adult entertainment venues.
Reflecting on that turbulent period, Rudeboy acknowledged the stark contrast between his upbringing and the nightlife scene he entered.
He said those challenging experiences played a significant role in shaping his artistic journey and ultimately contributed to his success in the music industry.
“I went from light to darkness, singing in a strippers club at age 16. My mom was a pastor and I used to follow her to the church, I was a lead singer in the choir, and I preach and teach music in the church. But I went to a prostitutes, at a stripper ashawo club and that’s what brought me this far.”
The candid revelation sheds light on how disparate life experiences can converge to forge a unique artistic identity.
