Rudeboy Reveals How His Pastor Mother’s Influence Led Him from Church Choir to Strip Club Stardom
Nigerian music star Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, recently spoke about his unconventional path to fame, revealing how his early life swung from a devout church upbringing to performing in strip clubs as a teenager.
In an interview on Yanga FM, the former P‑Square member explained that despite being raised by a pastor mother who involved him in church activities — singing lead in the choir, preaching, and teaching music — his life took a dark turn at age 16.
He described moving from leading worship services to entertaining audiences in adult venues, a stark contrast that shocked many who knew his religious background.
Reflecting on that period, Rudeboy said the experience, though difficult, played a crucial role in shaping his artistic identity and contributed to his later success in the music industry.
He recalled, “I went from light to darkness, singing in a strip club at 16. My mom was a pastor; I used to follow her to church, I was a lead singer in the choir, and I preached and taught music there. But I ended up in a prostitutes’ strip club, and that’s what brought me this far.”
