Osun Governor Adeleke Denies Attacking Tinubu
The Imole Campaign Council has rejected claims that Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke attacked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to the council, the governor’s remarks were solely an appeal for presidential intervention to ensure a free and fair governorship election in the state.
Call for Presidential Action Against Violence
In a statement released on Tuesday by Senator Lere Oyewumi, Director‑General of the Imole Campaign Organisation, the council accused the Osun chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of twisting Adeleke’s words. It stressed that the governor merely drew the President’s attention to alleged violence, intimidation, and arrests targeting Accord Party members and residents ahead of the August 15 election.
“At no point did the governor attack or deride the President,” the statement read. Adeleke urged Tinubu, as the nation’s leader, to step in and prevent further bloodshed in Osun.
The governor also asked the President to caution Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Gboyega Oyetola over political activities that could exacerbate tensions in the state.
Allegations of Violence and Detentions
The Imole Campaign Council reiterated its claim that seven Accord members have been killed in the past three months, with more than 20 others sustaining gunshot injuries. It also said over 60 party members are being held in what it describes as illegal police detention.
The council alleged that 45 Adeleke supporters were killed during the 2022 election cycle and accused the police of failing to prosecute those responsible. It further claimed that suspected APC supporters continue to raid communities and homes linked to Accord leaders.
Local Government Funds and Financial Transparency
The statement also highlighted Adeleke’s call for the President to address a local government leadership dispute in Osun, alleging that more than ₦350 billion belonging to the councils has been diverted and is under the control of APC‑backed officials whose tenure has expired.
Responding to criticisms of the state’s finances, the campaign organisation said the Adeleke administration has maintained transparency and due process, citing national awards for budget transparency and a third‑place ranking in auditing responsiveness as proof of sound financial management.
The council added that the government has delivered projects across various sectors while observing established financial procedures, dismissing the APC’s allegations as baseless.
