Obidient Movement Clarifies Leadership Authority
The Obidient Movement has rejected suggestions that a recent directive from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on campaign financing and affiliate group regulation was aimed at limiting its activities.
Speaking to Punch, National Coordinator Yunusa Tanko emphasized that the movement operates as a volunteer‑driven organisation and looks solely to its leader, Peter Obi, for guidance.
Tanko said, “We are not looking to engage in a public dispute with the NDC. The Obidient Movement is sustained by volunteers, and the only person who can issue directives on what he wants with his movement is its leader, Peter Obi.”
He added that Obi has not yet responded to the NDC’s policy, recalling a previous attempt to place the movement under the Labour Party, which Obi publicly addressed.
“Today I serve as national coordinator; tomorrow I may step aside. The movement continues beyond any individual. It is Peter Obi who decides the direction of the movement he leads, and we merely coordinate on his behalf,” Tanko concluded.
