Once regarded as political allies within the APC, their relationship soured after the party chose Abiodun as its consensus candidate for the senatorial seat once he completes his second term as governor.
Daniel’s Rejection and Withdrawal
Daniel rejected the consensus arrangement, calling for an open primary to decide the party’s nominee. He later withdrew from the contest, citing alleged intimidation and security concerns.
APC Primary Results
The APC proceeded with its primary election, which produced Abiodun as the party’s candidate. Official results show Abiodun secured 75,550 votes, while Daniel, despite having announced his withdrawal, received 398 votes.
Burial Service Disrupted by Political Chants
The burial ceremony was briefly interrupted when Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu was invited to pay tribute. As Adebutu spoke, some of his supporters chanted “Say Lado for 2027” and “Ogun for Ogun,” signaling his ambition to govern the state in 2027.
Counter‑Chants and Call for Calm
Supporters of Senator Solomon Adeola responded with songs promoting his own governorship bid. The competing chants disturbed the service, prompting Daniel to appeal for calm so the burial programme could continue.
