NPFL 2026/27 Season Opener Fixtures Confirmed
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced the fixtures for the opening weekend of the 2026/27 campaign, with defending champions Rangers set to begin their title defence at home against Katsina United.
Rangers, who secured a record‑extending ninth NPFL title last season, will host Katsina United at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium – popularly known as the Cathedral – in Enugu on Sunday, 30 August.
The new season kicks off on Friday, 28 August, when former champions Shooting Stars welcome newly promoted Inter Lagos to the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan. This match marks Inter Lagos’ first appearance in the Nigerian top flight after earning promotion from the Nigeria National League.
Other notable opening‑weekend fixtures include Kwara United versus four‑time champions Kano Pillars in Ilorin, and Rivers United beginning their campaign at home against Plateau United.
Former champions Enyimba will travel to Minna to face Niger Tornadoes, while Bendel Insurance host regional rivals Warri Wolves, and Doma United entertain Sporting Lagos.
Additional matches feature Ikorodu City versus Ranchers Bees, Abia Warriors taking on Kun Khalifat FC in Umuahia, and newly promoted Barau FC opening their NPFL journey with a home encounter against Nasarawa United.
The 2026/27 NPFL season will run from 28 August 2026 through to 30 May 2027, as clubs aim to make an early impact in the title race, continental qualification battles and the fight against relegation.
