A Nigerian individual has revealed that he allegedly lost one million naira to suspected fraudsters after taking cash from an unregistered roadside point‑of‑sale terminal, urging fellow citizens to exercise caution when dealing with such agents.
In a TikTok video posted by @travelwithscottpears, he recounted using his FCMB debit card for a purchase while visiting Badagry. Several hours afterward, he noticed an unauthorized withdrawal of exactly one million naira from his account.
“I have finally fallen victim to fraud, online fraud. So you see those people that are on the streets, where the only thing you see them carrying is money and POS, walking around. Please, as long as they don’t have a shop, do not withdraw from them. You’ll regret it.
I travelled to Badagry and made a withdrawal with my FCMB card. Everything went well, but around 11 p.m., I saw a withdrawal of one million naira from my account.”
He promptly visited his bank, where staff confirmed the transaction and traced it to the very POS terminal he had used for the withdrawal.
Further investigation showed that the funds had been moved into a SportyBet wallet, leading him to suspect that his card information had been compromised during the POS transaction.
“When we checked, we saw that the money was withdrawn into a SportyBet account because the person doesn’t want to be tracked. Obviously, I was hacked. This is another way they are taking money from people. Please be careful with those people on the roadside carrying POS machines,” he added.
His statement has generated considerable discussion online, with many commentators advising the public to rely only on verified POS agents or bank ATMs to avoid similar fraud.
