A Nigerian man recently disclosed on X that he mistakenly sent ₦70,000 to an incorrect Opay account, and the account holder replied that he would return ₦50,000 while retaining ₦20,000 as a gesture of honesty.

Man Speaks Out After the Mistransfer
The user, known on X as @Dr-Pharouk, explained that the recipient accidentally transferred ₦700,000 to his account instead of the agreed amount. The recipient has been contacting him repeatedly, requesting a full refund and claiming the money is intended for his boss. He quoted his original tweet: “I accidentally sent 70K to a wrong Opay account. The owner said he would keep 20K for his honesty and send back 50K. I agreed. Then he mistakenly sent me 700K instead. Now, he has been calling me since and begging me to send all the money as it’s for his boss. What should I do?” He added that the comment section quickly filled with opinions from other X users.

Community Reactions Pour In
Responses from fellow X users varied widely. One commenter suggested keeping ₦200,000 for honesty and sending ₦500,000 back, joking that the amount might increase to ₦7 million next time. Another advised the man to tell the receiver he would retain ₦200,000 for his honesty and observe the reaction. A different user noted that the receiver was supposed to send only ₦500,000, not ₦700,000, speculating that the extra amount was merely for engagement. Yet another participant agreed that offering to keep ₦200,000 and return ₦500,000 could be a fair compromise if the other party accepted.
