An individual, identifying as a Nigeria Police Force officer, recently caused controversy. He expressed deep frustration about police treatment in Nigeria. His statements also included threats directed at civilians. This rapidly sparked widespread online reactions.
The man’s viral video circulated on X. In it, he decried years of hardship within the force. He blamed authorities for neglecting officers. This neglect occurs despite their dangerous duties.
Officer’s Alarming Statement
He stated directly: “Any day wey I dey work duty as an officer, make somebody video me, that oga wey give una order go be the one to bury una. Twenty-six years here we dey suffer every day.”
He further criticized the poor welfare provisions. Officers often fund their own needs, he alleged. There is little support or accountability. This remains true even when lives are lost on duty.
Acknowledging Efforts for Welfare
However, he did acknowledge Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu. Disu is reportedly working to improve benefits. These are for families of fallen officers.
The officer added: “Uniform una no fit buy, nothing una fit do for us. If not for this new IG wey start amending things and giving fallen police officers’ families their benefits. Monkey dey work, baboon dey chop.”
The video quickly drew diverse online reactions. Many Nigerians condemned his threatening comments. They demanded his immediate arrest.
This incident reignited critical discussions. These focus on police welfare and accountability. Public trust in law enforcement is also a key concern.
