NDC Fires Back at Ganduje: Claims of Superior Wisdom Dismissed
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has countered former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje after he downplayed the presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Speaking with Punch, NDC Deputy National Publicity Secretary Abdulmumin Abdulsalam labelled Ganduje’s comments as inconsequential, stating that the ex‑APC leader has lost his political sway in Kano.
“I think Ganduje is just blabbing,” Abdulsalam said. “We in the NDC believe that when we reach the bridge, we will cross it. Politics, after all, is about proving your popularity.”
He added that Ganduje, as of today, is no longer a popular figure in Kano. Within his own party he has been sidelined and is steadily losing ground.
Abdulsalam reminded listeners that Ganduje once served as deputy to Kwankwaso, playing a key role in the latter’s rise to the governorship of Kano State.
“No child can claim to be a bigger father than his father. No matter how educated or well‑connected someone becomes, they cannot possess the wisdom of their mentor,” he explained. “If Ganduje now says he is wiser than Kwankwaso, he is merely playing to the gallery and not speaking seriously as a politician.”
The NDC spokesperson said the party is not interested in a war of words with Ganduje. Instead, they are confident that, when elections arrive, their strategy will deliver victory in Kano.
Abdulsalam also highlighted Peter Obi’s strong showing in the 2023 presidential election, where he secured roughly six million votes. He argued that, given the current national climate, Obi’s appeal — especially in the north — will only grow stronger by 2027.
“The masses voted massively out of anger for Obi last time. With today’s situation, we expect even greater support for him across northern Nigeria,” Abdulsalam concluded.
