NDC Defends Peter Obi-Kwankwaso Ticket’s Prospects in the North
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected assertions that the Peter Obi‑Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket would fail in the northern region.
Speaking to Punch, Deputy National Publicity Secretary Abdulmumin Abdulsalam labelled the ticket’s critics as politically irrelevant.
He argued that the North has moved beyond the era when a single individual could disparage another on religious or ethnic grounds.
According to Abdulsalam, voters will base their choices on the prevailing economic and security conditions rather than sentiment.
“Everybody sees what is happening across the country today, especially the rising insecurity in the North. If Peter Obi possesses the capacity to reverse these challenges, it is not for detractors to dictate his fate,” he said.
He added that the electorate will turn out in large numbers to support their preferred candidates, and the mistakes of the 2023 election will not be repeated.
The NDC plans to unveil its northern mobilisation strategy at the appropriate time, while intensifying outreach to labour unions, civil society organisations and the general public ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Very soon we will engage with the electorate, discuss national salvation, present our candidates and let the people decide. It is not about who arrives first at the market; it is about allowing everyone a voice and securing our outcome at the right moment,” Abdulsalam concluded.
