NDC Grants Waivers to Omo-Agege and Ochei for 2027 Senatorial Bid
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has approved waivers allowing former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege and ex‑Delta State Speaker Victor Ochei to contest senatorial seats on the party’s platform in the 2027 general elections.
Omo-Agege cleared for the Delta Central Senatorial district, while Ochei received a waiver for the Delta North district.
The decision came just six days after Omo-Agege resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the NDC.
Party Leadership Endorses the Move
In a statement, NDC National Publicity Secretary Osa Director said the waivers were granted in recognition of the politicians’ experience, leadership qualities and commitment to democratic ideals and good governance.
He added that the party is confident both leaders possess the competence, grassroots support and vision needed to deliver quality representation for Delta Central and Delta North.
Omo-Agege’s Defection and Ambitions
Omo-Agege announced his APC resignation on Friday, stating it followed wide consultations with associates, supporters and stakeholders across Delta State.
He thanked NDC figures such as Senator Seriake Dickson, National Chairman Moses Cleopas, presidential aspirant Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for their engagement during the defection process.
Declaring his intention to run for the Delta Central Senate seat, Omo-Agege said the move responds to calls from his supporters and is not about personal ambition but about fulfilling the mandate entrusted to him in 2019.
He pledged to strengthen the NDC structure across Delta State, register new members and prepare a credible slate of candidates ahead of 2027, promising to attract federal projects, create jobs and ensure accountability in public resource use if elected.
