Lukman Warns Opposition Must Strengthen Strategy Ahead of 2027 Elections
Former All Progressives Congress (APC) Vice Chairman Salihu Lukman has called on Nigeria’s opposition parties to improve their tactics if they hope to unseat the ruling party in 2027. While he wants to see President Bola Tinubu and the APC defeated, he expressed frustration with the current opposition approach.
Lukman warned that without decisive changes, the opposition risks repeating the mistakes of the 2023 general elections, even after any judicial rulings. He stressed that personal ambitions among opposition leaders must be set aside for the nation’s interest.
He said, “As a Nigerian, I want APC and President Tinubu out of government in 2027, but the way we are proceeding leaves me frustrated. When we began the coalition talks two years ago, our goals were to unite opposition leaders and build a party capable of holding elected officials accountable. Today, I fear we will fall back into the same patterns seen in 2023 and expect a miracle.”
