Lukman Expresses Frustration Over Opposition’s Weak Strategy Ahead of 2027 Polls
Former All Progressives Congress (APC) Vice Chairman Salihu Lukman has called on Nigeria’s opposition to sharpen their tactics if they hope to unseat President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 general election.
While Lukman says he personally wants to see the APC and Tinubu defeated, he voiced deep frustration with the current direction of the opposition, warning that they risk repeating the shortcomings seen in the 2023 elections.
He stressed that the opposition must set aside personal ambitions and focus on national interests, building a cohesive coalition capable of holding elected leaders accountable.
“Look, as a person, I don’t have any restraint. I want APC and President Tinubu defeated out of government in 2027. But the way we are going about it, I’m frustrated,” Lukman stated.
He recalled that when the opposition unity talks began roughly two years ago, the goals were to bring opposition leaders together and to create a party that could keep those in power answerable.
Lukman fears that, regardless of any judicial outcomes, the opposition is on track to replay the 2023 scenario and expect a miraculous turnaround without addressing core weaknesses.
