Lukman Criticizes Opposition Strategy, Warns of Repeating 2023 Mistakes Ahead of 2027 Elections
Former All Progressives Congress (APC) Vice Chairman Salihu Lukman has urged the opposition to sharpen its tactics if it hopes to unseat the ruling party in the 2027 general elections.
While he expresses a strong desire to see President Bola Tinubu and the APC defeated, Lukman said he is frustrated with the current state of the opposition.
He warned that, unless changes are made, the opposition risks repeating the mistakes of the 2023 polls, despite any judicial outcomes.
Lukman stressed the need to curb personal ambitions among opposition leaders and prioritize the nation’s destiny over individual interests.
“Look, as a person, I don’t have any restraint. I want APC and President Tinubu defeated out of government in 2027. But the way we are going about it, I’m frustrated,” he said.
As a Nigerian, he added that he is not excited by the present developments, recalling that when the opposition coalition began two years ago, its goals were to unite opposition leaders and build a party capable of holding elected officials accountable.
He concluded that, regardless of what emerges from the judicial process, the opposition appears headed back to the 2023 pattern, expecting a miracle to change the outcome.
