Lukman Calls for Stronger Opposition Strategy Ahead of 2027 Elections
Former All Progressives Congress (APC) Vice Chairman Salihu Lukman has expressed frustration with the state of Nigeria’s opposition, urging them to sharpen their tactics if they hope to unseat President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 general election.
Lukman said he personally wants to see the APC and President Tinubu defeated, but he is disappointed with how the opposition is preparing for the contest.
He warned that, without a clear shift in strategy, the opposition risks repeating the mistakes of the 2023 polls, even if judicial processes deliver favourable outcomes.
The ex‑party leader stressed that personal ambitions among opposition figures must be set aside so that the nation’s destiny takes precedence over individual interests.
Reflecting on the early days of the opposition coalition, Lukman recalled that the original goals were to unite opposition leaders and to build a political platform capable of holding elected officials accountable.
As things stand, he believes the current trajectory mirrors the 2023 experience, and he doubts that a miraculous turnaround will occur without deliberate reform.
Lukman’s remarks serve as a call to action for opposition parties to consolidate, prioritise national interests, and develop a credible alternative capable of challenging the ruling party in the forthcoming election.
