Kun Khalifat FC Set for Majority Takeover Ahead of New NPFL Season
Kun Khalifat FC, based in Owerri, is preparing for a major ownership shift as its shareholders move to sell a controlling stake to a prospective investor ahead of the upcoming 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
Club president Amaefula Michael confirmed the negotiations in a letter to the NPFL, stating that the shareholders are in the process of transferring majority shares to a buyer and urged the league to initiate the ownership transfer procedures.
Michael added that the NPFL will be notified once the deal is finalized, and appealed for timely processing to avoid complications.
If completed, the incoming investor will gain controlling interest after all required transfer formalities are satisfied.
However, any delay past the start of the new NPFL campaign could hinder plans for a possible rebranding, as league regulations may restrict name changes once the season begins.
The identity of the prospective buyer and financial terms of the takeover remain undisclosed, with further details expected after the transaction concludes.
