Kenneth Okonkwo Urges Tinubu to Step Down Ahead of 2027 Election
African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo has urged President Bola Tinubu to abandon the idea of contesting the 2027 general election and instead resign peacefully, returning to his Lagos residence.
Okonkwo argued that the worsening security situation across the country makes another electoral bid untenable, noting daily incidents of violence in Plateau, Benue, Oyo and other states.
He also reacted to the recent Abuja Federal High Court ruling that overturned the deregistration of the ADC, claiming the judgment is designed to frustrate the opposition and pave the way for Tinubu’s coronation rather than a genuine electoral contest.
Sharing a personal ordeal, Okonkwo recounted how his worker’s mother was abducted in Kaduna State, held for ransom, and when the family could not meet the kidnappers’ demand, they severed two of her fingers. He emphasized that such tragedies are under‑reported and underscore the need to prioritize life over political ambition.
Concluding, Okonkwo reiterated that President Tinubu should step down now, avoid the 2027 election, and leave office in peace.
