Kenneth Okonkwo Criticizes APC Over Alleged Billboard Fees in Abia

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of imposing exorbitant fees on presidential and governorship campaign billboards in Abia State.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Okonkwo said it is unfortunate that the ruling party has made it nearly impossible for opposition groups to thrive.

He noted that in Abia State, opposition candidates are being asked to pay as much as ₦200 million for a presidential billboard and ₦150 million for a governorship billboard.

“Multiply ₦200 million by the 36 states plus the Federal Capital Territory, and you will see the extent of the perfidy,” Okonkwo remarked, adding that the high cost is merely an opportunity to advertise policies to Nigerians.

He described the APC as a “scourge that wants to destroy our democracy.”

Okonkwo expressed his surprise that Governor Alex Otti would accept such terms, stating, “I’m surprised that Governor Otti will fall for that. As far as I’m concerned, that is an APC agenda using Governor Otti to make it impossible for the opposition political parties to campaign, and it’s really unfortunate.”

The ADC leader urged stakeholders to reject the inflated charges and called for a level playing field for all political contestants.
