Kenneth Okonkwo Criticises APC for Imposing Exorbitant Billboard Fees in Abia, Accuses Governor Otti of Complicity
Kenneth Okonkwo, a senior member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), denounced the All Progressives Congress (APC) for compelling presidential and gubernatorial hopefuls in Abia State to pay ₦200 million and ₦150 million respectively for campaign billboards. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, he described the charges as a deliberate attempt to stifle opposition voices and undermine fair competition.
He warned that multiplying the ₦200 million fee by the 36 states plus the Federal Capital Territory reveals the scale of the scheme, labelling it an affront to democratic participation. Okonkwo expressed surprise that Governor Alex Otti would acquiesce to such demands, asserting that the APC is exploiting the governor to weaken rival parties and jeopardise Nigeria’s democratic process.
