Kenneth Okonkwo Expresses Shock Over Governor Otti’s Alleged Role in APC’s ₦20150m Billboard Fees in Abia
Kenneth Okonkwo, a senior chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of imposing exorbitant fees on campaign billboards in Abia State. He alleges that the ruling party is using Governor Alex Otti to frustrate opposition efforts.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Okonkwo said it is unfortunate that the APC has made it nearly impossible for opposition parties to campaign effectively. He pointed out that presidential candidates must pay ₦200 million to erect billboards, while governorship hopefuls face a ₦150 million charge.
Okonkwo warned that multiplying the ₦200 million fee by the 36 states plus the Federal Capital Territory reveals the scale of the alleged manipulation. He described the situation as an opportunity to advertise policies being turned into a financial barrier for political rivals.
Expressing surprise that Governor Otti would comply, Okonkwo asserted that the APC is exploiting the governor to sabotage opposition campaigns, a move he believes undermines Nigeria’s democratic process.
