Prominent businessman and social commentator Isaac Fayose has sparked online debate after accusing Nigeria’s electoral body of manipulating the vote.
In a widely shared video, Fayose claimed that elections cannot bring political change because uncollected voter cards are being exploited for partisan gain.
He emphasized, “No party can win an election in Nigeria. I repeat, no party, no election can change this government. Look at Ekiti: officials said only 30,000 voters failed to pick up their cards, but the real figure exceeds 400,000.”
Fayose added that those unclaimed cards are allegedly distributed to non‑indigenes who receive ₦20,000 to cast ballots.
According to him, regions where these cards are being used show inflated turnout, while traditional strongholds have seen voter numbers drop.
He warned, “They are now handing the cards to outsiders and paying them ₦20,000 to vote. These cards should be under INEC’s custody. This explains why insecurity such as Boko Haram, banditry and kidnapping keeps rising—legitimate agents of change are being sidelined.”
He lamented, “Nigeria cannot improve. Elections will not alter the government in this country, I swear. The nation is lost. INEC, shame on you.”
The statements have drawn mixed reactions; some citizens express worry, others demand proof.
As of this report, INEC has not issued a public reply to Fayose’s claims.
