Isa Pantami Defects to PDP, Wins Gombe Governorship Ticket
The immediate past Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, has officially left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and entered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was subsequently declared the party’s governorship candidate for Gombe State in the upcoming 2027 election.
Pantami emerged victorious after a voice affirmation conducted by party members, during which he stood as the sole aspirant. The Chairman of the PDP Electoral Panel, Hon. Gregory Yenlong, announced the outcome, confirming that Pantami had been duly affirmed as the PDP’s flagbearer for the governorship race.
Speaking following his declaration, Pantami said his decision to contest was driven by a desire to serve the people of Gombe State. He pledged to administer the state with fairness, justice, and transparency if elected governor.
The former minister’s move to the PDP came shortly after he withdrew from the APC governorship primary in Gombe. In his withdrawal statement, issued by Barrister Ibrahim M. Attahir on behalf of the Pantamiyya Movement, Pantami cited alleged violations of the Electoral Act 2026 and claimed that party officials failed to create the conditions necessary for a credible primary process.
He added that the decision followed extensive consultations with various stakeholders and a thorough review of the developments surrounding the APC’s direct primary in the state.
