Fred Agbedi Insists Goodluck Jonathan Should Not Declare 2027 Presidential Run Yet
Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, has responded to the ongoing speculation about former President Goodluck Jonathan’s possible 2027 presidential bid. He stressed that it is not Jonathan’s role to announce his candidacy publicly.
Agbedi explained that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is deliberately taking its time before unveiling Jonathan, aiming to present him as a specially packaged candidate. He described Jonathan as a “precious candidate” whose return to the ballot would be unprecedented for a former elected president.
The lawmaker also touched on the PDP’s legal struggle with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), noting that the party is seeking to enforce court judgments concerning its leadership. He said the litigation is ongoing and expressed confidence that the party will prevail.
Agbedi affirmed that Jonathan enjoys broad support due to his presidential experience and international stature. He argued that Nigeria needs a leader with proven capacity, knowledge and global recognition to reverse the country’s decline under the current administration.
