Former APC Vice Chairman Salihu Lukman Calls for Stronger Opposition Ahead of 2027 Elections
Former All Progressives Congress (APC) Vice Chairman Salihu Lukman has urged Nigeria’s opposition parties to intensify their efforts if they hope to unseat the ruling party in the 2027 general elections.
While Lukman expressed a clear wish to see President Bola Tinubu and the APC defeated, he voiced deep frustration with the current direction of the opposition.
He warned that without a change in approach, the opposition risks repeating the shortcomings observed in the 2023 polls, even after any judicial rulings.
Lukman stressed that personal ambitions among opposition leaders must be set aside so that the nation’s interests come first, and that a cohesive party capable of holding elected officials accountable is essential.
“As a Nigerian, I want APC and President Tinubu out of government in 2027, but the way we are proceeding leaves me frustrated,” he said. “We began two years ago with the goal of uniting opposition leaders and building a party that can keep those in power answerable. Today, I fear we are heading back to the same patterns seen in 2023 and hoping for a miracle.”
